Wedding Rings
A Wedding Ring is traditionally worn on the third finger in the western world. The Greeks believed that a Vein of Blood was connected from the heart to the third finger.
Engagement Rings
The word diamond came from the ancient Greek word ‘adamas', meaning unconquerable.
The first diamond engagement ring made an appearance in 1477, when it was slipped on the finger of Mary of Burgundy by her fiancé, Archduke Maximilian of Austria. The Venetians Popularized the custom during the 15th. century. Since the diamond was the hardest and most enduring substance in nature it followed that the engagement and marriage would endure forever.
In 860 A.D., Pope Nicholas I decreed that an engagement ring become a required statement of nuptial intent. He insisted that engagement rings had to be made of gold which signified a financial sacrifice on the part of the prospective husband.
Weddings:
A wedding is a ceremony that celebrates the beginning of a marriage or civil union. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, cultures and religions, countries, and social classes. In some countries, cultures and religions, the actual act of marriage occurs at the time of signing a marriage license or other legal document, and the wedding is then an opportunity to perform a traditional ceremony and celebrate with family and friends.
